How to Find Your 2000 Land-Rover's Color Code

Later model Land Rovers have paint codes on the drivers door jamb. Older models usually have them under the front hood on the radiator support. Codes may appear as short alphanumeric strings like LRC961 or HAF; both can refer to the same color on one vehicle. Example: LRC961 HAF corresponds to Epsom Green Clearcoat. Labels may show either LRC961 or HAF. On older cars, locations include both the drivers door jamb and the radiator support.

2000 Land-Rover Background Info

The 2000 Land-Rover Vibe

The year 2000 was a weird pivot point. You had the Discovery Series II and the P38 Range Rover trying to look civilized for the suburban set, while the Defender was still out there pretending it was 1948. It was the era of "safari-chic"-heavy on the brush guards and even heavier on the dream of crossing a desert you'd never actually visit. In our database, the survivor that defines this year is Chawton White. It wasn't the flashy metallic of the new millennium; it was the honest, workhorse shade that looked just as good covered in mud as it did in a showroom. While everyone else was chasing Y2K silver, the smart money stayed with the classic white that didn't go out of style when the ball dropped.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to The Peeling Era. By the year 2000, Land-Rover was fully committed to the basecoat-clearcoat system, but the chemistry of the time had a wandering eye. If you've got a 2000 model, you're likely staring down the barrel of "Delamination." That's the fancy industry term for your clear coat deciding it doesn't want to be married to the color anymore. It starts as a small, cloudy bubble on the roof or the hood-where the sun beats it senseless-and before you know it, your Rover is shedding its skin like a snake in the Sahara. Once that clear lifts, the basecoat underneath is defenseless. It'll fade, chalk, and give up the ghost faster than you can say "British reliability."

Restoration Tip

If you see a rock chip, you treat it like a leak in a dam-seal it immediately. In this era, the clear coat is held on by a mechanical bond that's prone to "creeping" failure. Once air and moisture get under the edge of a chip, they start prying the clear away from the pigment. Don't just dab the color on and call it a day; you need to clean the area, apply your Chawton White, and then ensure you've got a fresh clear coat seal over the top that overlaps the healthy factory paint. This creates a "bandage" that stops the delamination from spreading across the entire panel. If you ignore a chip on a 2000 Land-Rover, you aren't just looking at a spot repair; you're looking at a full respray by next summer.
