How to Find Your 2003 Land-Rover's Color Code

Later model Land Rovers have paint codes on the drivers door jamb. Older models usually have them under the front hood on the radiator support. Codes may appear as short alphanumeric strings like LRC961 or HAF; both can refer to the same color on one vehicle. Example: LRC961 HAF corresponds to Epsom Green Clearcoat. Labels may show either LRC961 or HAF. On older cars, locations include both the drivers door jamb and the radiator support.

2003 Land-Rover Background Info

The 2003 Land-Rover Vibe

Welcome to 2003, a year when the Discovery II was making its final stand and the Range Rover was reinventing itself as a tech-heavy palace on wheels. It was an era of "rugged minimalism"-where a truck was expected to look as good in a gravel driveway as it did knee-deep in a bog. We've kept our focus on the two colors that truly define this period: the utilitarian Chawton White and the deep, sophisticated Galway Green Metallic. These weren't just paint codes; they were the uniform for the last generation of Land-Rovers that felt like they were built by hand rather than by a boardroom.

Paint Health Check

You're currently looking at the tail end of the Peeling Era. By 2003, the factory was fully committed to the basecoat-plus-clearcoat system, and while it looked a mile deep in the showroom, time and UV rays have not been kind. The biggest threat to your 2003 Land-Rover is delamination-what we in the shop call "the sunburn." If you see white, cloudy patches or clear skin lifting off the hood or roof of your Freelander or Defender, your clear coat has given up the ghost. Once that protective layer separates from the color coat, moisture gets trapped, and the pigment underneath starts to turn chalky and die.

Restoration Tip

The golden rule for this era? Seal your stone chips immediately. In the early 2000s, clear coats were getting harder but more brittle. A single chip from a gravel road isn't just a beauty mark; it's a breach in the hull. If left open, air and water will work their way under the edges, causing the clear coat to lift and peel away in sheets. If you're working with Galway Green Metallic, you have an extra enemy: oxidation of the metallic flakes. If they get exposed to the air, they'll lose their sparkle and turn a dull, rusty grey. Use a high-solid touch-up to "cap" the edges of any chip and lock that clear coat down before the peel starts to travel.
