How to Find Your 2006 Land-Rover's Color Code

Later model Land Rovers have paint codes on the drivers door jamb. Older models usually have them under the front hood on the radiator support. Codes may appear as short alphanumeric strings like LRC961 or HAF; both can refer to the same color on one vehicle. Example: LRC961 HAF corresponds to Epsom Green Clearcoat. Labels may show either LRC961 or HAF. On older cars, locations include both the drivers door jamb and the radiator support.

2006 Land-Rover Background Info

The 2006 Land-Rover Vibe

2006 was the year Land-Rover decided to officially trade the muddy fields of the English countryside for the valet lines of Beverly Hills. Between the boxy, "techno-adventure" LR3 and the peak luxury of the L322 Range Rover, the palette was finally getting some personality. With 15 colors in our database, we see the era perfectly: you had your "I definitely go hiking" earthy tones like Giverney Green Metallic and Tonga Green, but you also had the "look at me" hero colors like Vesuvius Orange Metallic and the deep, sophisticated Maya Gold Metallic. It was a time of transition-half rugged explorer, half high-street fashion.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. By 2006, the robots in the factory had become almost too good at their jobs. They were programmed for "efficiency," which is corporate-speak for spraying the absolute bare minimum of clear coat required to pass inspection. While those factory finishes looked like a million bucks on the showroom floor, they haven't aged like a fine scotch. If your 2006 Rover has spent its life under the sun, you're likely seeing the "white death"-that characteristic flaking and peeling of the clear coat on the roof and hood. Because these coats were applied so thin, there isn't much "meat" left to buff out; once the clear starts to lift from the base, it's a race against the elements.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up a 2006 Rover, remember: Build layers slowly; don't blob it. Since the factory paint is notoriously thin, a giant drop of touch-up paint will sit on the surface like a pimple. If you try to sand that blob down to level it, you'll burn through the paper-thin original clear coat surrounding the chip before you even make a dent in your repair. Use a fine-tipped applicator and apply three or four "whisper-thin" layers, letting them dry in between. It takes patience, but it's the only way to match the precision of those 2006 factory robots without making your hood look like a relief map.
