How to Find Your 2008 Land-Rover's Color Code

Later model Land Rovers have paint codes on the drivers door jamb. Older models usually have them under the front hood on the radiator support. Codes may appear as short alphanumeric strings like LRC961 or HAF; both can refer to the same color on one vehicle. Example: LRC961 HAF corresponds to Epsom Green Clearcoat. Labels may show either LRC961 or HAF. On older cars, locations include both the drivers door jamb and the radiator support.

2008 Land-Rover Background Info

The 2008 Land-Rover Vibe

In 2008, Land Rover was busy balancing its "mud-on-the-tires" heritage with a serious addiction to luxury. This was the era where the Range Rover Sport and the LR3 were the kings of the suburban jungle, looking just as home at a gala as they did in a bog. With 22 colors in our database for this year, they weren't exactly shy with the spray gun. You had the classics like Alaska White and Tonga Green Metallic for the traditionalists, but the real stars were the metallic "effects" that defined the late 2000s-shades like Stornoway Grey Metallic, Zermatt Silver, and the occasional flash of Tambora Flame Pearl for the guy who wanted everyone to know he arrived.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. By 2008, the factory robots had become surgically efficient. They were programmed to apply just enough paint to make the car look deep and glossy on the showroom floor, but not a micron more than necessary. While the finish looked world-class, it lacked the "meat" of the older trucks. The result? These Rovers are notorious for road rash. A stray pebble on the highway doesn't just nick the surface; it slices through the thin clear coat and base like a hot knife through butter. If your Range Rover has spent its life under a harsh sun, you might also notice the clear coat on the roof or hood starting to "cloud" or flake-that's the robot-applied protection finally throwing in the towel.

Restoration Tip

Because this era of paint is so thin, you have to be smarter than the robot that sprayed it. When you're touching up those inevitable stone chips, build your layers slowly; don't blob it. If you try to fill a deep chip in one heavy pass, the solvent will get trapped, the paint will shrink as it cures, and you'll end up with a dip that looks like a crater. Instead, apply a thin "foundation" layer, let it flash off, and add another. It takes a little more patience, but it's the only way to get a flush, level finish that actually stays put when you're buffing it out later.
