How to Find Your 2015 Land-Rover's Color Code

Later model Land Rovers have paint codes on the drivers door jamb. Older models usually have them under the front hood on the radiator support. Codes may appear as short alphanumeric strings like LRC961 or HAF; both can refer to the same color on one vehicle. Example: LRC961 HAF corresponds to Epsom Green Clearcoat. Labels may show either LRC961 or HAF. On older cars, locations include both the drivers door jamb and the radiator support.

2015 Land-Rover Background Info

The 2015 Land-Rover Vibe

By 2015, Land Rover was hitting a high-fashion stride. You had the Evoque turning heads in the city, the LR4 holding down the fort as the last of the legendary boxy brutes, and the Range Rover Sport SVR screaming onto the scene in that unmistakable Estoril Blue Metallic. With 29 colors in our vault from this year alone, it's clear they weren't shy about variety. Whether it was the "old money" look of Aintree Green Metallic or the "look at me" flash of Zanzibar Brown Metallic, these rigs were designed to look as good at a gala as they did axle-deep in a bog. It was a golden era of choice before everything turned into five shades of rental-car gray.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. By 2015, the factory painters weren't humans with spray guns; they were robots programmed for "efficiency." That means your Range Rover or LR2 came off the line with a finish that's breathtakingly glossy but thinner than a politician's promise. Because the clear coat is applied with such surgical precision, there's very little "meat" on the bone. If you've got an LR4, that flat front end is likely a magnet for rock chips that go straight through to the primer. On the darker pearl finishes like Mariana Black or Barolo Black, a decade of sun can start to make that thin clear coat look "cloudy" or brittle, especially on the roof and hood where the heat soak is most intense.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up these modern finishes, you have to fight the urge to "blob" the paint. Because the factory layers are so thin, a heavy-handed repair will stick out like a sore thumb. The Secret: Build layers slowly. Instead of one thick drop, apply your base color in two or three paper-thin passes, letting them dry in between. You want to build the color up until it's just below the surrounding surface, then level it off with the clear coat. This mimics the robot's precision and prevents that "topographical map" look that ruins a good repair. Patience is your best tool here; let the solvents flash off properly so the metallic flakes in colors like Waitomo Grey actually have room to stand up and shine.
