How to Find Your 2016 Land-Rover's Color Code

Later model Land Rovers have paint codes on the drivers door jamb. Older models usually have them under the front hood on the radiator support. Codes may appear as short alphanumeric strings like LRC961 or HAF; both can refer to the same color on one vehicle. Example: LRC961 HAF corresponds to Epsom Green Clearcoat. Labels may show either LRC961 or HAF. On older cars, locations include both the drivers door jamb and the radiator support.

2016 Land-Rover Background Info

The 2016 Land-Rover Vibe

Welcome to 2016-the year Land-Rover decided that if a color didn't have "Metallic" or "Pearl" in the title, it wasn't worth spraying. It was a hell of a time for the brand; the LR4 was taking its final, boxy bow, while the Range Rover Sport and Evoque were busy conquering suburban cul-de-sacs. With 24 colors in our database for this year alone, it's clear the boys in Solihull weren't shy with the palette. Whether you were rocking the adventurous Kaikoura Stone Metallic or the "look-at-me" Estoril Blue Metallic, these trucks looked like they were carved out of solid jewels. It was the peak of the "Urban Adventurer" aesthetic: vehicles built to climb a mountain, but mostly used to climb a curb at the valet stand.

Paint Health Check

The 2016 models sit right in the heart of the Thin Paint Era. By this point, the factory robots had become surgically efficient. They figured out exactly how many microns of paint they could get away with while still making the showroom floor look like a hall of mirrors. The depth you see in Barolo Black Pearl or Waitomo Grey Metallic is a bit of an optical illusion-it looks miles deep, but the actual "meat" on the bone is thinner than a hiker's thermal socks. The problem? Road rash. If you've spent any time on the highway, your hood and front fascia probably look like they've been in a light shotgun blast. Because the clear coat is so thin and hard, it tends to chip rather than flex when a pebble hits it at 70 mph.

Restoration Tip

When you're repairing a 2016 finish, you have to fight the urge to "blob and go." Because this era used such thin, high-efficiency coats, a single giant drop of touch-up paint will stand out like a sore thumb against the factory's flat, robotic precision. The Rule: Build layers slowly. Apply your color in thin, translucent passes, allowing it to flash off in between. If you're working with those high-flake pearls like Yulong White or Baltoro Ice, you need that layering to get the metallic orientation right. Finish with a clear coat that sits just slightly proud of the surface, then level it back. You aren't just painting; you're matching the "Robot Efficiency" of the factory, and that takes a steady hand and a lot of patience.
