How to Find Your 1993 Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

1993 Lincoln Background Info

The 1993 Lincoln Vibe

Picture it: 1993. You're floating down the interstate in a Mark VIII or a Town Car, sitting on what feels like a motorized velvet sofa. It was the height of the "American Luxury" era, where the ride was soft and the presence was loud. While the early nineties were busy experimenting with wild teals and splashy metallics, we've focused on the ultimate survivor: Oxford White. It was the only color that truly mattered for that boardroom-on-wheels look-clean, authoritative, and timeless. If you're driving one of these today, you aren't just driving a car; you're piloting a time machine.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the heart of The Peeling Era. By 1993, Lincoln had fully committed to the basecoat/clearcoat system, but the bond between those layers wasn't always as strong as the V8 under the hood. Most 1993 survivors suffer from what I call "Lincoln Sunburn"-otherwise known as clear coat delamination. It starts as a tiny white bubble or a flaky patch on the roof or trunk, and once that clear coat lifts, it peels back like a cheap beach umbrella in a hurricane. If your Oxford White looks a bit "dandruffy" on the horizontal surfaces, you're dealing with a classic case of clear coat failure.

Restoration Tip

In this era, your biggest enemy is oxygen getting under the clear. To save a 1993 finish, you have to seal your chips immediately before the clear coat starts to lift around the edges. If you already have some minor flaking, don't just paint over the loose stuff. Use a fine-grit abrasive to very gently feather the edge where the clear meets the basecoat. Once the edge is smooth and stable, apply your touch-up to seal the border. Think of it like a surgical graft-you're stopping the spread before the whole panel decides to shed its skin.
