How to Find Your 2000 Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

2000 Lincoln Background Info

The 2000 Lincoln Vibe

The year 2000 was a weird one for Lincoln. We were all terrified of the Y2K bug, but the only thing that actually crashed was the curb weight of the Navigator. While the Town Car was still holding down the executive airport run, the Navigator was busy redefining the American driveway. The color palette of the era was obsessed with the "high-tech" look of the new millennium. If it wasn't a clean Oxford White or Performance White, it was probably Silver Frost Metallic. We've focused our database on these essentials-the survivors of the era that actually stayed on the road long enough to need a touch-up.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the peak of The Peeling Era. By 2000, Lincoln had fully committed to the basecoat/clearcoat system, but the chemistry hadn't quite caught up to the sun's appetite. If your Navigator has been sitting in the driveway for twenty years, you're likely seeing "delamination"-that's a fancy shop word for the clear coat coming off in sheets like a bad sunburn. The Dark Toreador Red Pearl was a showstopper on the showroom floor, but if the clear coat fails, that deep red turns into a dull, chalky mess. Once the clear lifts, moisture gets under the edges and starts a slow-motion divorce between the color and the metal.

Restoration Tip

The secret to keeping a 2000 Lincoln looking respectable is sealing the edges. If you see a rock chip, don't ignore it-on these Ford-era paint jobs, a chip is just a starter kit for a peeling hood. Use your touch-up paint to seal the wound immediately before the clear coat starts to "bridge" and lift away from the base. If you're already seeing peeling edges, lightly sand the "cliff" where the clear meets the air with a fine grit until it's smooth, then apply your touch-up. If you don't stop the lift now, you'll be chasing it across the whole panel by next summer.
