How to Find Your 2003 Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

2003 Lincoln Background Info

The 2003 Lincoln Vibe

2003 was the year the Navigator and the all-new Aviator decided to own the asphalt. This was Lincoln at its most "American Luxury"-massive chrome grilles, plush leather, and a color palette that looked like a high-end jewelry store. We've cataloged 9 specific survivors in our database, and honestly, the lineup was dominated by the "Big Three" of the early aughts: Silver, White, and deep Metallics. Whether you're rocking the iconic Silver Birch Pearl, the deep Redfire Pearl Metallic, or the triple-layered look of Ceramic White Pearl Tricoat, these cars were designed to look expensive under the valet lights.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to The Peeling Era. By 2003, Lincoln was using advanced basecoat/clearcoat systems, but they were still wrestling with "Delamination." This is the era where the clear coat-the shiny protective skin-likes to lose its grip on the color underneath. If your hood or roof looks like it's getting a nasty sunburn with white, flaky edges, you're looking at clear coat failure. Because 2003 clear coats were laid on thick for that deep "luxury" shine, once a rock chip or a bird dropping breaks the seal, moisture gets under the clear and starts lifting it off in sheets. It's the Achilles' heel of an otherwise bulletproof finish.

Restoration Tip

If you own one of these 2003 beauties, your mantra is: Seal it or lose it. On these early-aughts Lincolns, a single rock chip is the starting gun for a peeling roof. The second you see a nick in that Silver Frost or Oxford White, you need to seal it immediately. Don't just dab the color; make sure you're sealing the edges where the clear coat meets the chip. This prevents air and water from creeping under the clear and starting the delamination process. If the clear has already started to lift at the edges, sand the "lip" of the peel down gently before touching it up, or you're just painting over a problem that's going to keep growing.
