How to Find Your 2005 Lincoln's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

2005 Lincoln Background Info

The 2005 Lincoln Vibe

Welcome to 2005, the absolute peak of the "Bling Era." This was when the Navigator and Aviator weren't just SUVs; they were rolling statements of suburban dominance, usually seen wearing enough chrome to blind a low-flying pilot. With 11 colors in our database for this year, Lincoln was leaning hard into the luxury aesthetic. You had the executive heavy hitters like Black Ebony and Silver Birch Pearl Metallic, but if you really wanted to show off the cul-de-sac status, you went with Cashmere Tricoat or Pueblo Gold Metallic. It was a time of depth and shimmer-colors designed to look deep enough to drown in under a showroom spotlight.

Paint Health Check

If you're staring at a 2005 Lincoln today, you're likely staring at a survivor from the tail end of the Peeling Era. By the mid-2000s, factory paint tech had mastered the look, but the bond between the basecoat and the clear coat wasn't always a "til death do us part" arrangement. We call it delamination. After twenty years of UV exposure, the clear coat on those massive hoods and roofs starts to get brittle. It begins as a tiny rock chip in your Redfire Pearl or Dark Blue Pearl, but once the air gets under that clear, it starts to "zip" off the panel in ugly white flakes. If your roof looks like it has a bad case of sunburn, that's the clear coat waving the white flag.

Restoration Tip

In this era, your best friend is immediate intervention. Because these clear coats are prone to lifting, a single untreated chip is a ticking time bomb for the rest of the panel. Seal every chip the moment you see it. If you're working with one of those high-end tricoats like Ceramic White Pearl, remember that you're dealing with layers of physics, not just pigment. Build your base color slowly, and ensure you seal the edges of the repair site thoroughly. This locks the existing clear coat down to the metal and prevents that "creeping peel" that turns a small touch-up into a trip to the body shop for a full respray.
