How to Find Your Lincoln Aviator's Color Code

Lincoln color codes are always on the drivers door jamb. On the color plate, EX PT (for Exterior Paint) appears, with the paint code located above or below; sometimes the actual color is embossed on the plate and not where expected. Typical format: WT/M6640, though M6640 is rarely shown and typically only WT appears. WT corresponds to Performance White Clearcoat. Pre 1970 Lincolns can be problematic due to same names with different codes.

The Color Breakdown

Lincoln certainly didn't hold back with the Aviator, recording a staggering 66 colors over the years. They've given us everything from the sophisticated Chroma Caviar Pearl and Iced Mocha Pearl to the more adventurous Cenote Green and Dark Amethyst. Whether your Aviator is draped in a classic metallic or one of those deep, multi-stage "Effect" paints, it's clear the designers wanted this SUV to look like a rolling piece of jewelry.

What to Watch For

Before you pop that touch-up cap, take a close look at the leading edge of your hood. The Aviator uses aluminum body panels, which are great for weight but can be prone to "bubbling" if moisture gets under the paint-a little quirk of aluminum chemistry. You might also notice some "orange peel" texture from the factory, but for our driveway repair, we're focusing on those pesky stone chips. To get the right match, open your driver's door and look at the VIN sticker on the jamb; you're looking for a two-character code next to "EXT PNT." Common ones look like "GS" for Ceramic Pearl or "AZ" for Pristine White.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Aviator colors are "Tricoats" or "Pearls" (looking at you, Pristine White and Burgundy Velvet), your secret weapon is the "Shake and Wait" method. These paints are packed with tiny metallic flakes that love to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake that paint pen or bottle for a full two minutes-long enough for your arm to get tired-to wake up the sparkles. When applying, think of yourself as a surgeon, not a house painter. Use a toothpick or the very tip of the brush to place a tiny drop inside the chip. If the paint looks a bit thin, don't worry-it's designed that way. Let it dry for 20 minutes and add another tiny layer. Patience is what makes a driveway repair look like a professional secret.
