How to Find Your 2001 Lund's Color Code

The Lund paint color code is obtained from Lund; they can determine the color code. For identification, the primary source is the color code provided by Lund. If there is no color code, the reference becomes the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number. In short, Lund supplies the code, or, when none exists, the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number is the alternative.

2001 Lund Background Info

The 2001 Lund Vibe

It's 2001. You're backing your brand-new Pro-V or Tyee into the local launch, feeling like the king of the walleye circuit while "Smooth" by Santana plays on the truck radio. The turn of the millennium brought a serious shift in the Lund look-we moved away from the flat, utilitarian colors of the 90s and leaned hard into the sophisticated earth tones of the Y2K era. We've got a database full of the survivors, ranging from the deep, rich Forest Green and Cobalt Blue Metallic to the "champagne" class of Pewter and Sand Beach. Back then, if your hull wasn't shimmering in Graphite Gray, were you even really fishing?

Paint Health Check

Welcome to The Peeling Era. While 2001 was a high-water mark for boat design, it was a rocky time for paint adhesion. These hulls were caught in the crosshairs of the industry's struggle with clear coat stability and primer bonding. If your Red Reef or Medium Red Lund has spent the last two decades baking on a lift or bouncing off gravel roads, you're likely seeing the dreaded "Sunburn Effect." This is Delamination-where the clear coat decides it no longer wants to be friends with the color coat underneath. It starts as a small, cloudy bubble near a rivet or the spray rail and, before you know it, the finish is flaking off like a cheap lottery ticket.

Restoration Tip

When dealing with a 2001 finish, time is your biggest enemy. Once oxygen and moisture get between those layers, the clear coat will lift in sheets, and you'll be looking at a full strip-and-spray. My advice? Seal chips immediately before the clear lifts. If you spot a nick from a dock or a stray lure, don't wait for the weekend. Clean it, prep it, and get a dab of color on there to lock the edges of the clear coat down. It's the only way to stop the "peel-creep" and keep that Artic White or Black hull looking factory-fresh instead of looking like it's molting.
