We've officially entered the Thin Paint Era. By 2019, the robots at the factory were so efficient they could paint an entire hull with about as much material as I used to get on my shoes back in '82. The finish is beautiful and precise, but it lacks "meat." Because it's laid down so thin to save weight and cost, these hulls are prone to "dock rash" that goes straight to the aluminum before you can even swear. You might also notice tiny bubbles starting around the rivets or the transom seams; that's not the paint's fault-that's just the nature of aluminum trying to return to the earth. If you've got Arctic White or Medium Gray, you're dealing with a catalyzed finish that's tough as nails but won't forgive a lazy touch-up.

Restoration Tip

Since 2019 paint is thin and applied with robotic precision, you can't just "blob and go." If you're using our Catalyzed Spray (required for shades like Arctic White and Beige), you're getting that genuine factory-grade chemical cure, which is the only way to match that 2019 hardness. The Pro Move: Build your layers slowly. Do not try to fill a deep gouge in one shot. Apply a thin coat, let it flash, and repeat until you've built up enough "shoulders" to level it out.
