How to Find Your MG All Models's Color Code

MG can determine the paint color code; if there is no color code, the PPG or Dupont (Axalta) paint formula number applies.

The Color Breakdown

MG didn't just pick a palette; they went on a global color tour. With 103 recorded shades, they've given us everything from the quintessential British Racing Green to the "is-this-a-flower-or-a-paint-job" Aconite (Purple) and Black Tulip. They really leaned into the experimental era with names like Caramel Metallic and Coral Metallic-proof that MG designers weren't afraid to let their hair down and get a little flashy.

What to Watch For

Whether you're driving a vintage roadster or a modern ZS, MG paint has its quirks. On older models, those classic reds like Damask Red have a tendency to get "sunburned" and lose their luster. On the modern models, the clear coat can be a bit shy; it's known to peel away if a stone chip gives it a starting point, especially on the bonnet and roof. Before you start, hunt down your paint code: on classics, look for a metal plate in the engine bay (near the firewall); on modern models, check the driver's side door jamb or the underside of the hood.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since many MGs feature deep metallics or "tri-coat" finishes (like the popular Dynamic Red), they require a little extra patience. Skip the giant brush that comes in the bottle-it's usually too big and leads to "blobbing." Instead, use the Toothpick Technique: dab a tiny drop of paint onto the end of a toothpick and let it flow into the chip. If you're working with a metallic shade, shake your touch-up bottle for a full 60 seconds. You need to wake up those metallic flakes so they don't just sit at the bottom of the bottle while you're working.
