How to Find Your Mazda 808's Color Code

Mazda color codes are normally on the drivers door jamb; some models hide them in the engine compartment. If not on the drivers door jamb, finding the code may take extra work. Codes are typically two or three digits, made of numbers and letters. Example: 21R. 21R is called Moonlight Gray Metallic Clearcoat in one naming, Grey Clearcoat by another name, or Moonstone Clearcoat by another name. Marketing may change the color name.

The Color Breakdown

Mazda kept the palette tight for the 808, focusing on a "quality over quantity" approach. With only 3 total colors recorded, they really leaned into the '70s aesthetic. You've got the sophisticated Concord Silver Metallic, the clean Aurora White, and the show-stopper: Red Copper Metallic. They didn't need a hundred options; they just needed three shades that looked like they were moving fast even when the car was parked.

What to Watch For

Your 808 has likely spent a few decades under the sun, and its original finish is probably showing its age. These vintage paints are prone to "chalking"-a type of fading where the surface looks white and cloudy, especially on the flat surfaces like the roof and hood. Keep an eye on the edges of the trunk and the wheel arches, too; the paint tends to get thin there first. To find your car's specific DNA, pop the hood and look for a small metal plate on the firewall (the back wall of the engine bay). That's where your paint code is hiding, usually stamped right into the metal.

Driveway Repair Tip

If you're working with Concord Silver or Red Copper, you're dealing with metallics. Those tiny metallic flakes are heavy and love to settle at the bottom of your touch-up bottle like sand in a pond. Shake your bottle or pen for at least 60 seconds-seriously, use a timer-to wake up those sparkles. When you're ready to fix a chip, don't try to "paint" a line. Instead, just dab a tiny amount into the center of the spot and let it flow out to the edges. It requires patience, but thin layers will always look better than a thick blob.
