How to Find Your Mercedes-Benz A-Class's Color Code

Mercedes-Benz used to place paint color codes in various locations. Recent models have the code on the driver's door jamb. On older models the code can be hard to find; location and format vary by year or model and may require searching multiple tags. Most codes are three-digit and numeric only. On the color ID tag, the code appears as the fourth group of numbers at the top. Example: 373 corresponds to Atlantic Blue; names typically stay consistent across models.

The Color Breakdown

Mercedes-Benz clearly couldn't decide on a favorite child, so they gave the A-Class a staggering 57 recorded colors. They really went for it with the naming, too. You've got the classics like Obsidian Black and Iridium Silver, but things get spicy with South Seas Blue, Solar Yellow, and the adventurous Kryptonite Green. Whether your car is "50 shades of grey" or looks like a bowl of tropical fruit, there is a very specific formula waiting to fix that chip.

What to Watch For

Before you get started, you need to find your "North Star"-the paint code. On the A-Class, you'll almost always find it on a sticker located on the driver's side door jamb (look for a three-digit number). If it's not there, pop the hood and check the radiator support bar.

Now, a little heart-to-heart: if you're driving a Jupiter Red or have a gloss black roof, keep a close eye on the edges. These models are known for clear coat "sunburn"-where the top layer starts to peel or flake. If you see a small chip, fix it early! Mercedes paint is high-quality, but it can be a bit sensitive to trapped moisture, which leads to tiny bubbles. If you catch it while it's just a chip, you're saving yourself a much bigger headache later.

Driveway Repair Tip

Because many A-Class colors-like Mountain Gray Metallic or Digital White-rely on heavy pearls and metallic flakes, your bottle of touch-up paint is basically a snow globe. Shake that bottle for at least 60 to 90 seconds. You need to wake up those tiny metallic flakes so they don't all sit at the bottom, otherwise, your repair will look "flat" compared to the rest of the car.

When applying, think "less is more." Use the tip of the brush or a toothpick to drop the paint into the chip rather than painting over it. If the color looks a little dark at first, don't panic-it just requires patience. Most Mercedes shades look their best once they've fully dried and had a chance to settle.
