How to Find Your Mercedes-Benz B-Class's Color Code

Mercedes-Benz used to place paint color codes in various locations. Recent models have the code on the driver's door jamb. On older models the code can be hard to find; location and format vary by year or model and may require searching multiple tags. Most codes are three-digit and numeric only. On the color ID tag, the code appears as the fourth group of numbers at the top. Example: 373 corresponds to Atlantic Blue; names typically stay consistent across models.

The Color Breakdown

Mercedes-Benz didn't hold back with the B-Class, recording a staggering 37 different colors. They really went for it with names like Jupiter Red, Kryptonite Green, and the dreamy Northern Lights Violet Metallic. Of course, this is still a German car, so they also provided about fourteen different ways to say "grey," ranging from Mountain Gray to Monolith Gray. Whether you're driving a "50 Shades of Silver" edition or a bright Solar Yellow head-turner, your B-Class was built to look sharp in the driveway.

What to Watch For

Before you start dabbling, you need your "secret recipe" number. On the B-Class, ignore the engine bay; you'll find your paint code on a sticker inside the driver's side door jamb. Look for a 3-digit number (like 775 or 147) near the bottom of the tag.

In terms of wear, the B-Class has a bit of a "cliff-face" front end, which means the hood and bumper tend to act as a magnet for road gravel. You might also notice tiny "micro-bubbles" or slight fading near the door handles on older models-don't panic! It's common with these finishes and perfectly manageable as long as you catch the chips before the neighborhood moisture decides to move in.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many B-Class shades are metallic or pearl-like Cosmos Black or Digital White-the "sparkles" inside the paint are actually heavy minerals that love to sink to the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a full 60 seconds (set a timer!) to wake those flakes up. When applying, think "less is more." Use the tip of the brush to drop the paint into the center of the chip and let it spread itself out to the edges. If you have the Mountain Gray (matt) finish, be extra gentle: just a tiny dot of paint and no rubbing, or you'll accidentally turn that matt finish into a shiny spot!
