How to Find Your Mercedes-Benz E Series's Color Code

Mercedes-Benz used to place paint color codes in various locations. Recent models have the code on the driver's door jamb. On older models the code can be hard to find; location and format vary by year or model and may require searching multiple tags. Most codes are three-digit and numeric only. On the color ID tag, the code appears as the fourth group of numbers at the top. Example: 373 corresponds to Atlantic Blue; names typically stay consistent across models.

The Color Breakdown

Mercedes-Benz didn't just build a luxury car with the E Series; they gave us a full-blown art gallery. With 34 colors recorded, they clearly moved past the standard "executive grey" mindset. While you have your classics like Brilliant Silver Metallic and Midnight Blue, they really went for it with some of the more exotic choices. If you're rocking Circon Green Pearl or the deep Royal Indigo Metallic, you aren't just driving to the office-you're making a statement.

What to Watch For

First things first: let's find your ID. Your paint code is usually hiding on a sticker or metal plate on the passenger-side door jamb (check the vertical pillar where the door latches). If it's not there, pop the hood and look at the radiator support bar. It's typically a 3-digit number, sometimes with a "C" in front of it.

Now, for the reality check. Mercedes clear coats are famously high-quality, but they can be a bit brittle. This means highway driving often results in "pecking"-those tiny, sharp stone chips on the hood. Keep a close eye on your wheel arches and the very bottom of your doors, too. If a chip sits too long, moisture can sneak under the paint and create tiny "spider leg" marks of corrosion. The good news? If you catch them early, you can stop that process in its tracks right in your driveway.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many of these E Series colors are Pearls or Metallics (looking at you, Black Opal Pearl), your biggest challenge is "the flake." Those tiny sparkles like to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or brush for a solid two minutes-way longer than you think you need-to wake up those metallics.

When you apply it, don't try to "paint" a stroke. Instead, use the tip of your brush to dab a tiny drop into the center of the chip and let it flow out to the edges. It's better to do two paper-thin layers than one big, gloopy mountain. If you're working with a metallic shade, it requires a little patience to get the depth right, but your E Series will thank you for the extra minute of effort.
