How to Find Your 1993 Nissan's Color Code

Nissan paint color codes are on the driver's door jamb. Some labels are low on the jamb and require bending to read. The color label may be small. Codes are typically three characters long using letters and numbers; sometimes a space and a fourth character follow. The same code can have different marketing names across models. AX6 corresponds to Redline Clearcoat; AX6 may also be called Red Clearcoat or High Performance Clearcoat. Nissan North America phone number is 1-800-647-7261.

1993 Nissan Background Info

The 1993 Nissan Vibe

Welcome to 1993-the year the 300ZX Twin Turbo was the undisputed king of the boulevard and the "Hardbody" Truck was earning its name on every construction site in the country. Whether you were carving corners in an NX Coupe or hauling the family in a Quest, Nissan was hitting its stride with "bubble" styling and a palette that finally moved past the boxy browns of the '80s. We've focused our database on the true survivors of this era: the heavy hitters like Aztec Red, Super White, and Black. If you're still rocking a 240SX or a Pathfinder in these shades, you aren't just driving a car; you're piloting a piece of the decade that gave us grunge and the best sport compacts ever built.

Paint Health Check

We're firmly in The Peeling Era. By 1993, Nissan had fully embraced the basecoat-clearcoat system for most models, but the chemistry of that early clear coat wasn't exactly "forever" tech. If your Maxima or Sentra spent its life under the sun, you're likely dealing with delamination-that's when the clear coat starts to flake off like a nasty sunburn, leaving the base color exposed and chalky. Aztec Red was particularly notorious; it either stayed vibrant for thirty years or faded into a sad, pinkish matte the moment the clear gave up. The metal underneath is solid, but that clear coat is usually the first thing to wave the white flag.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up a '93, you have to seal those chips immediately. Once a rock chip breaks the seal of that aging clear coat, moisture gets trapped underneath and starts "lifting" the surrounding area. Before you apply your color, use a fine-grit sandpaper to lightly feather the edges of the failing clear coat so your new paint can bridge the gap. If you just "blob" paint into a chip on a peeling roof, the clear will keep lifting right under your repair. Seal it tight, keep the moisture out, and you might just get another thirty years out of that finish.
