The clear coat is remarkably thin, making it prone to "micro-chipping"-tiny hits that expose the primer or metal before you even realize you've been struck.

Restoration Tip

Because the factory finish on a 2014 Nissan has such a shallow profile, you have to build your layers slowly; don't blob it. If you go in heavy-handed with a big drop of touch-up paint, it's going to sit on the surface like a mountain on a molehill. Instead, use a fine-tip applicator to place a thin layer in the center of the chip and let it flow out. Wait for it to dry, then add another. You want to slowly "grow" the repair until it's flush with that thin factory clear. It takes an extra ten minutes, but it's the only way to make the repair disappear into that robot-thin finish.
