How to Find Your Porsche Boxster's Color Code

Porsche paint codes are often hard to find. They are usually near the spare tire area, printed on a paper color ID tag that may fall off with time. The owner's manual for some models sometimes lists paint codes. Porsche uses the same color across different models, and the same code may appear under different color names. Codes can be four characters starting with L or three characters, using letters and numbers.

The Color Breakdown

Porsche didn't just give us a car with the Boxster; they gave us a rolling bag of Skittles. With 121 recorded colors, they really went for it-from the legendary Guards Red and Wimbledon Green Metallic to the delightfully bold Frozen Berry Metallic and Shark Blue. Whether your car looks like it belongs at a business meeting or a beach party, Porsche ensures that "gray" is never your only option (though they have about 50 versions of that, too).

What to Watch For

Because the Boxster sits closer to the asphalt than a professional skateboarder, its nose is a magnet for road debris. You'll likely find "peppered" rock chips across the front hood and the side mirrors. Also, keep a close eye on the rear spoiler and the top of the mirror caps; on older models, the clear coat here can sometimes start to flake like a bad sunburn. To find your specific shade, look for a white paper sticker on the underside of the front hood (the "frunk") or tucked inside the first few pages of your maintenance manual. It's usually a three or four-digit code like L92U or 3AU.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Boxster colors are heavy on metallics and pearls (looking at you, Rainforest Green), you need to wake up those sparkles. Shake your touch-up bottle for a full two minutes-if your arm isn't tired, you haven't shaken it enough. Instead of using the giant brush that comes in the cap, grab a wooden toothpick. Dip the tip in the paint and "dab" it into the center of the rock chip. Let the paint flow out to the edges of the crater on its own. It's much easier to add a second tiny drop later than it is to deal with a giant, colorful mountain on your hood.
