How to Find Your 1998 Saturn's Color Code

Saturn used many different locations for the paint color plate over the years, making it hard to find. The paint code is usually in the glove box or the spare tire well; if not there, it may be elsewhere. GM did not standardize the location across makes and models. Codes like 51/WA316N are often preceded by BC/CC; two tone cars may show U or L (Upper/Lower), e.g., BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N. There can be eighteen different code 51's so 316N identifies the color.

You've seen it: that ugly white haze that starts on the roof or trunk and begins to flake off like a bad sunburn. On a Saturn, you're dealing with a double-edged sword: the plastic door panels handle the sun differently than the metal hood and roof. If you see the clear coat starting to lift or turn chalky, you're on a ticking clock. Once that protective top layer is gone, the base color underneath is defenseless against the elements.

The secret to keeping a '98 Saturn from looking like a science project is immediate intervention. Because the clear coat from this era tends to "bridge" over chips, a single rock strike can become a dinner-plate-sized peel in a matter of months. Seal your chips immediately before the clear lifts.
