How to Find Your Saturn SL2's Color Code

Saturn used many different locations for the paint color plate over the years, making it hard to find. The paint code is usually in the glove box or the spare tire well; if not there, it may be elsewhere. GM did not standardize the location across makes and models. Codes like 51/WA316N are often preceded by BC/CC; two tone cars may show U or L (Upper/Lower), e.g., BC/CC U316N or BC/CC L316N. There can be eighteen different code 51's so 316N identifies the color.

The Color Breakdown

Saturn really leaned into the "lifestyle" vibe with the SL2, giving us a palette of 30 recorded colors that sound more like a high-end smoothie bar than a car catalog. They really went for it with deep, moody shades like Blackberry Metallic and Dark Plum Metallic, balanced out by the Y2K-era classics like Silver Metallic and White. Whether your SL2 is rocking the "Dark Antelope" look or a bright Aquamarine Metallic, these colors were designed to make plastic body panels look surprisingly premium.

What to Watch For

The SL2 is a bit of a "Tupperware car"-and I say that with love. While those plastic door panels and fenders won't rust, the paint on them can sometimes feel a little "stretchy" or prone to flaking if it gets a deep nick. However, the metal parts of your car-the hood, the roof, and the trunk-are where the real battle happens. Keep an eye on the roof and hood for clear coat peeling; it's a common Saturn trait that starts as a small "cloudy" spot before it begins to flake. To find your exact match, head to the trunk. Look for a "Parts Identification" sticker either on the underside of the trunk lid or tucked away on the spare tire cover. You're looking for a code that starts with U or WA (like WA8555).

Driveway Repair Tip

Because so many SL2 colors are packed with metallics and pearls (looking at you, Dark Blue Pearl), you need to be the "Bottle DJ." Shake your touch-up bottle or spray can for at least two full minutes-not just until the mixing ball rattles, but until your arm is tired. This ensures all those tiny metallic flakes are suspended evenly so you don't end up with a dark, flat-looking spot. When applying, think "thin and patient." If you're using a brush, dab the paint into the center of the chip and let it flow to the edges rather than painting it on like a wall. If you're using a spray can on a larger area, remember that three light, misty layers will always look better than one heavy, runny one.
