How to Find Your 2016 Scion's Color Code

Scion is manufactured by Toyota and shares many of the same color codes. On all models, the color ID plate on the drivers door jamb shows C/TR followed by the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09, where the color code is 3P1; FA09 has nothing to do with the color code and is an interior option code. The same paint appears across models under different names (e.g., 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat). The code is also available from a dealer via the VIN.

2016 Scion Background Info

The 2016 Scion Vibe

2016 was the swan song for Scion, a year where the brand decided to go out with a colorful bang before Toyota folded the tent. Whether you were tossing an FR-S into a corner or commuting in the iM, iA, or the final edition tC, you weren't hurting for options. Our database tracks 30 distinct shades from this era, ranging from the aggressive Hot Lava Metallic and Electric Storm Blue to the effortlessly cool Cement Gray Metallic. It was a time when Scion was desperately trying to stay "youthful," which left us with a graveyard of bold metallics and tricoats that still look sharp today-if they've been looked after.

Paint Health Check

Welcome to the Thin Paint Era. By 2016, factory robots had become masters of "efficiency," meaning they got really good at applying the absolute minimum amount of paint required to cover a panel. If you own a Scion in Blizzard Pearl Tricoat or Absolutely Red, you've probably noticed that the finish is "soft." This era is notorious for high chip counts on the hood and leading edges; one stray pebble on the freeway and it looks like your car took a buckshot blast. The clear coat is technically advanced, but it's thin-microns thin. If you've got a Raven Black or Asphalt Gray model that's lived its life under the sun, that thin clear layer is likely gasping for air, making it prone to premature etching and surface scratching.

Restoration Tip

When you're touching up a 2016 Scion, you have to respect the robot's work: build your layers slowly and don't blob it. Since the factory finish is so lean, a giant glob of touch-up paint will stick out like a sore thumb. For colors like Sonic Titanium Metallic or Spring Green, use a fine-tipped applicator to fill the center of the chip, let it shrink down, and repeat. You're trying to mimic a thin, multi-stage factory application, not icing a cake. If you're working on the Blizzard Pearl or Crystal White Tricoat, take your time with the mid-coat to get that shimmer to line up. Patience is the only way to make a 2016 repair look like it actually belongs there.
