How to Find Your Scion tC's Color Code

Scion is manufactured by Toyota and shares many of the same color codes. On all models, the color ID plate on the drivers door jamb shows C/TR followed by the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09, where the color code is 3P1; FA09 has nothing to do with the color code and is an interior option code. The same paint appears across models under different names (e.g., 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat). The code is also available from a dealer via the VIN.

The Color Breakdown

Scion didn't just give us a car; they gave us a personality test on wheels. With 33 recorded colors, they really went for it. You've got everything from the "stealth fighter" vibes of Cement Gray and Flint Mica to the "look-at-me" energy of Absolutely Red and Sun Fusion. Whether your tC is dressed in the deep, sparkly Black Sand Pearl or the eye-popping Wave Line, these colors were designed to stand out in a parking lot full of boring commuters.

What to Watch For

Before you start, pop the driver's side door and look at the VIN sticker on the jamb. You're looking for a little label that says "C/TR"-your code is the three-digit sequence right next to it (like 040 for Super White or 1G3 for Magnetic Gray).

Now, let's be real: Scion paint is a bit sensitive. Owners often joke that the clear coat is so soft it might scratch if you look at it too hard. You'll likely find most of your work waiting for you on the low-slung hood (rock chip central) or the roof and spoiler, where the sun tends to get a little too friendly with the clear coat. If you see a chip that looks a bit brown, don't panic-that's just a tiny bit of surface rust that's been waiting for you to come to the rescue.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Scion colors use pearls and micas (looking at you, Blizzard Pearl and Indigo Ink), your touch-up bottle is basically a snow globe. Shake that bottle for at least 60 seconds to wake up those metallic flakes-otherwise, your repair will look like flat paint instead of a factory match.

When you're ready to apply, remember: thin is king. Instead of trying to fill a chip with one giant, gooey drop, use the tip of your brush to dab in a tiny amount. Let it dry for 15 minutes, then add another layer if you need to build it up. It requires a little patience, but your tC will thank you for not giving it a "paint zit."
