How to Find Your 1990 Suzuki's Color Code

On Suzuki vehicles, paint color codes may be well hidden, and some vehicles have no code at all. Suzuki can be contacted to determine where the code is, locate hidden codes, or verify paint formulas. When a code is missing, the PPG paint formula number or the Dupont paint formula number can replace the color code.

1990 Suzuki Background Info

The 1990 Suzuki Vibe

Welcome to 1990-the year the Suzuki Samurai and Sidekick were officially the kings of the "budget-beach" lifestyle. While the rest of the world was getting complicated with neon teals and experimental metallics, Suzuki kept it honest. We've focused on the ultimate survivor of that decade: Superior White (26U). It's the "fridge white" of legends-the color that looked just as good caked in trail mud as it did parked at a suburban mall. In 1990, if you weren't driving a white Zuk with the top down, were you even living?

Paint Health Check

Now, listen close, because 1990 sits right in the heart of The Peeling Era. Back then, manufacturers were still trying to master the marriage between base coats and clear coats, and frankly, some of those marriages didn't last the honeymoon. If your Suzuki hasn't started shedding its skin like a sunburnt tourist, count your blessings. On these older Suzukis, the clear coat likes to "delaminate"-that's a fancy word for when the clear lifts off in big, ugly flakes because the bond failed. Once that clear starts to bubble or flake away, the color underneath is defenseless against the sun and the salt.

Restoration Tip

If you spot a rock chip or a small area where the clear is starting to lift, don't wait for the weekend. Seal those chips immediately. On a 1990 Suzuki, a tiny chip is an open invitation for a "rust blossom" to start growing in the metal, or for air to get under the clear coat and start a peeling frenzy. If the clear is already lifting, use a fine-grit sanding block to very gently feather down the edges of the "shelf" where the clear meets the base. This stops the wind and water from getting a grip and pulling more of the finish off. Get some fresh paint on there and seal the deal before the body panels decide to go back to nature.
