How to Find Your 1991 Suzuki's Color Code

On Suzuki vehicles, paint color codes may be well hidden, and some vehicles have no code at all. Suzuki can be contacted to determine where the code is, locate hidden codes, or verify paint formulas. When a code is missing, the PPG paint formula number or the Dupont paint formula number can replace the color code.

1991 Suzuki Background Info

The 1991 Suzuki Vibe

Welcome to 1991, the year Nirvana's Nevermind hit the shelves and the Suzuki Sidekick was the undisputed king of the trailhead. Whether you were rocking a Samurai or a Swift, these cars were built for a good time, not necessarily a long time-at least as far as the sheet metal was concerned. While our database focuses on the absolute survivor of the era-Superior White-don't let the simplicity fool you. In '91, this "appliance white" was the tactical choice for every beach-bound 4x4 and high-revving pocket rocket Suzuki produced. It was clean, bright, and the only color that looked right with a set of neon-pink aftermarket decals.

Paint Health Check

We are deep in The Peeling Era now. By 1991, manufacturers were fully committed to the basecoat/clearcoat system, but they hadn't quite mastered the "staying together" part. If your Suzuki has been living outside, you're likely seeing the classic signs of delamination-where the clear coat decides to part ways with the color underneath, leaving behind a flaky, white mess that looks like a bad sunburn. Even if you have a single-stage version of Superior White, thirty-plus years of UV exposure has likely turned that gloss into a chalky, oxidized finish that rubs off on your sleeve every time you lean against the fender.

Restoration Tip

If your clear coat is starting to lift at the edges of a stone chip, you need to act before the wind catches it and peels the whole hood. The trick here is feathering. Don't just dab paint into the hole; use a fine-grit abrasive to very gently smooth the "cliff" where the clear coat has failed. Once that transition is smooth, seal it immediately with your color and a solvent-based clear. This locks the remaining factory clear coat down to the primer, stopping the "creeping peel" in its tracks. And for the love of the trail, get some wax on it-modern solvent-based touch-ups need that barrier to survive another three decades.
