How to Find Your 1984 Toyota's Color Code

On all Toyota models, the color ID plate is on the drivers door jamb. It shows the letters C/TR and then the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09. The color code is 3P1; FA09 is not part of the color code and is an interior option code. For example, 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat; names may vary like Red Metallic Clearcoat or Wine Metallic Clearcoat. The color code can also be obtained from a dealer using the VIN.

1984 Toyota Background Info

The 1984 Toyota Vibe

1984 was the year Toyota decided to take over the world, one boxy fender at a time. Whether you were rocking a Landcruiser in the mud or showing off the pop-up headlights on a Supra, the aesthetic was "utilitarian cool." This was the peak of the two-tone era and the birth of the 4Runner, where a simple, honest palette ruled the road. We've focused our collection on the true survivors of the era-those classic workhorse tones like Beige, the deep Black that defined the 80s executive look, and the legendary Super White 2. These aren't just colors; they're the uniform of a decade that refused to quit.

Paint Health Check

If you're looking at original 1984 paint today, you're dealing with the Single Stage Era. Back then, we didn't hide the pigment under a plastic-like clear coat; the color was the protection. But here's the rub: without that modern top layer, these Toyotas are prone to "The Chalk"-heavy oxidation. If your Corolla or Truck looks like it was dusted with flour, that's the paint literally dying on the vine. It's a porous finish that absorbs the sun and the rain until the pigment gives up the ghost and turns into a dull, chalky mess.

Restoration Tip

With 1984 paint, the rule is simple: it needs wax or it dies. Because it's single-stage, you can actually "bring back" a faded finish by buffing off the dead oxidized layer to reveal the fresh color underneath. But once you've done that, you've thinned the herd. You must keep a high-quality carnauba or polymer sealant on it at all times to act as a sacrificial barrier. If you let that Beige or Super White 2 go dry in the sun for a single summer, you're just inviting the rust to start its dinner.
