How to Find Your 2004 Toyota's Color Code

On all Toyota models, the color ID plate is on the drivers door jamb. It shows the letters C/TR and then the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09. The color code is 3P1; FA09 is not part of the color code and is an interior option code. For example, 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat; names may vary like Red Metallic Clearcoat or Wine Metallic Clearcoat. The color code can also be obtained from a dealer using the VIN.

2004 Toyota Background Info

The 2004 Toyota Vibe

Welcome to 2004-the year the 4Runner and Tacoma cemented their status as "immortal," and the Prius officially made "hybrid" a household word. It was a time of peak Toyota confidence. We've got 50 colors in our vault for this year alone, which tells you everything you need to know about the era. If you weren't driving a Silver Streak Metallic Camry or a Phantom Gray Tundra, you were likely rocking Impulse Red or the ubiquitous Super White 2. It was a palette of "sensible with a side of shine," dominated by high-gloss metallics and those deep Mica pearls that looked like a million bucks under the showroom lights.

Paint Health Check

But here's the salty truth from the spray booth: we are deep in The Peeling Era. While the mechanicals of a 2004 Toyota will outlive us all, the clear coat tech was in a fight with the sun that it often lost. If your roof or hood looks like it's suffering from a bad case of road-rash dandruff, you're looking at classic delamination. The clear coat starts to lose its grip on the base color, turning cloudy before it eventually flakes off in sheets. This is especially true for the Super White and Blizzard Pearl models, which were legendary for "peeling like an onion" once the UV damage hit the primer layer.

Restoration Tip

The golden rule for 2004 paint: Seal your chips immediately before the clear lifts. On these mid-2000s finishes, a stone chip isn't just an eyesore; it's an entry point for moisture and air to get under the clear coat "envelope." Once that seal is broken, the delamination spreads like a virus. When you're touching up a 2004, don't just dab the color and walk away. You need to ensure the edges of the repair are fully sealed to the surrounding clear. If you see a white, chalky ring starting to form around a chip, sand it back ever so slightly with a fine grit before applying your touch-up, or you're just painting over a problem that's already moving.
