How to Find Your Toyota Pickup's Color Code

On all Toyota models, the color ID plate is on the drivers door jamb. It shows the letters C/TR and then the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09. The color code is 3P1; FA09 is not part of the color code and is an interior option code. For example, 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat; names may vary like Red Metallic Clearcoat or Wine Metallic Clearcoat. The color code can also be obtained from a dealer using the VIN.

The Color Breakdown

Toyota didn't just build a truck; they built a legend, and they gave us 16 different ways to dress it up. While most of these pickups were born to live in the dirt, Toyota actually got a bit spicy with the palette. We're talking everything from the "let's get to work" White and Medium Blue to the surprisingly classy Cinnamon Metallic and Slate Gray Metallic. Whether you have a desert-ready Beige or a high-visibility Yellow, your truck has personality-even if it's currently hidden under a layer of trail dust.

What to Watch For

Before you start dabbing, you need to find your "C/TR" (Color/Trim) code. On most Pickups, you'll find it on a sticker inside the driver's side door jamb, but if you're driving one of the older classics, check for a metal plate riveted to the firewall under the hood. Now, here is the honest truth: Toyota's older paints are tough, but they aren't invincible. If you have a White truck, keep an eye out for "flaking"-the paint sometimes likes to peel off in chips. If you're rocking Red or Dark Blue, the sun might have turned your glossy finish a bit dull or "chalky" on the hood and roof. Don't worry, though; a little fresh paint goes a long way in stopping that from spreading.

Driveway Repair Tip

When you're working with those Metallic shades-like the Silver, Brown, or Cinnamon-you have to be a bit of a mixologist. Those tiny metallic sparkles are heavy and love to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for a full two minutes (trust me, your arm should be tired) to get the color even. When you apply it, think "less is more." Use three or four paper-thin layers instead of one big, thick drop. It requires patience to let it dry between coats, but it's the secret to making that chip disappear into the rest of the fender.
