How to Find Your Toyota Previa's Color Code

On all Toyota models, the color ID plate is on the drivers door jamb. It shows the letters C/TR and then the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09. The color code is 3P1; FA09 is not part of the color code and is an interior option code. For example, 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat; names may vary like Red Metallic Clearcoat or Wine Metallic Clearcoat. The color code can also be obtained from a dealer using the VIN.

The Color Breakdown

Toyota didn't just build a mid-engine, futuristic "space egg" with the Previa; they dressed it for the part. With 20 recorded colors, they really went for it. While most vans of the era were stuck in beige purgatory, the Previa lineup featured some truly adventurous choices like Pale Yellow Pearl, Light Turquoise Pearl Metallic, and Deep Red Pearl. Whether yours is a classic White or the moodier Dark Purple Pearl, these colors were designed to make a statement in the grocery store parking lot.

What to Watch For

Because the Previa has more roof surface area than some small apartments, the sun tends to treat it like a giant magnifying glass. You might notice the clear coat getting a bit "chalky" or thin on those high-exposure areas like the hood and the top of the van. Specifically, if you have a white Previa, keep an eye out for larger flakes of paint trying to make a break for it-this is a known quirk where the paint and the primer decide they need some space from each other. To make sure you're getting the right match, head to the driver's side door jamb. Look for the VIN sticker; your paint code is a three-digit sequence located right after the "C/TR" (Color/Trim) label.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Previa colors are "Pearls" or "Metallics," those tiny flakes of shimmer like to settle at the bottom of the bottle while it sits in your drawer. Before you touch the car, shake your touch-up bottle or pen for a full 60 seconds-and I mean "maraca solo" style. This wakes up the pearls and ensures the color you're dabbing on matches the van. When applying, remember that three paper-thin layers are always better than one giant "blob" of paint. If you're working on a pearl finish, it requires patience to get the depth just right, so take your time and let each layer dry before adding the next.
