How to Find Your Toyota Truck's Color Code

On all Toyota models, the color ID plate is on the drivers door jamb. It shows the letters C/TR and then the paint code. Example: C/TR 3P1 FA09. The color code is 3P1; FA09 is not part of the color code and is an interior option code. For example, 3P1 is Impulse Red Metallic Clearcoat; names may vary like Red Metallic Clearcoat or Wine Metallic Clearcoat. The color code can also be obtained from a dealer using the VIN.

The Color Breakdown

Over the years, Toyota has dressed their trucks in a staggering 78 recorded colors. They really went for it with personality-heavy shades like Rustic Green, Terra Cotta, and the dreamy Paradise Blue Metallic. Whether you're driving a farm-hand beige Pickup from the '80s or a modern Metallic Gray Tacoma, Toyota's palette has always been about more than just utility-it's about making a statement in the dirt.

What to Watch For

Before you pop that cap, you need to find your code. Open your driver's door and look at the VIN sticker on the jamb; look for the letters "C/TR" at the bottom left. The three-digit code right after that is your golden ticket. Now, the reality check: Toyota trucks are legendary for outlasting their own paint. You'll often see "chalking" or fading on the roof and hood where the sun beats down hardest, and certain white shades are known for wanting to part ways with the metal in small flakes. Don't worry-this is something you can absolutely handle in your driveway before a little chip turns into a big rust problem.

Driveway Repair Tip

Since so many Toyota colors are Metallic or Pearl, those tiny flakes of sparkle like to settle at the bottom of the bottle. Shake your touch-up pen or bottle for at least 60 seconds-longer than you think you need to-to wake those sparkles up. When applying, think "thin and patient." Instead of one big blob that looks like a grape, apply two or three paper-thin layers. If you're working on a tiny stone chip, skip the brush that comes in the cap and use the tip of a toothpick to "drop" the paint into the center of the chip. It'll level out beautifully on its own.
