Here's the cold, hard truth from the spray booth: 1999 was the heart of The Peeling Era. By now, the clear coat on your rig has seen a quarter-century of UV assault. These coaches were among the first to fully embrace the basecoat-clearcoat system on a massive scale, and while it looked like a million bucks on the showroom floor, the clear coat tech back then had a nasty habit of "delaminating." If you see white, flaky edges around your roofline or on the front cap, your clear coat is waving the white flag. Once it starts lifting, moisture gets under the "skin" and turns a small chip into a dinner-plate-sized peel faster than you can find a level campsite.

Restoration Tip

If you catch a chip in your Canyon Red Metallic or Sahara Metallic early, seal it immediately. The moment that clear coat bond is broken, the environment starts eating the basecoat underneath, which has zero UV protection on its own. If you've already got peeling, don't just spray over the top-you've got to lightly feather the edges of the "good" clear with fine-grit sandpaper so the new repair can bite. Just remember: you're looking for a "smooth transition," not a "crater." Seal those edges before the delamination snowballs, or you'll be looking at a full strip-and-spray that'll cost more than the original sticker price.
