How to Find Your 2003 Winnebago's Color Code

Colors for Winnebago, Itasca, Rialta and ERA motorhomes are listed at the provided link. The paint color code may be hard to find on the vehicle, sometimes well hidden behind parts, and some vehicles do not have color codes at all. Winnebago can be called to ask where the code is and for the PPG paint formula number or the Dupont paint formula number. Some situations require direct contact with Winnebago.

2003 Winnebago Background Info

The 2003 Winnebago Vibe

Welcome to 2003, the year Winnebago decided your motorhome should look less like a breadbox and more like a high-end kitchen appliance. We're talking about the era of the Adventurer, the Journey, and the Minnie Winnie-rigs that were trading in the dusty browns of the '90s for a high-tech, "New Millennium" sheen. With a massive 40-color database from this year, it's clear the factory was staying busy. Silver was the undisputed king of the road back then, but Winnebago leaned hard into those sophisticated earth-tone metallics. If you aren't rocking Brite White, you're likely draped in Luxor Beige, Autumn Metallic, or the rare, moody Plum Metallic. It was a time of "Full Body Paint" packages that made these beasts look sleek, at least until the sun had its way with them.

Paint Health Check

We are deep in The Peeling Era here. By 2003, the industry had mastered the look of a basecoat/clearcoat finish, but they hadn't quite figured out how to make it survive twenty years of baking in a Tucson RV park. The biggest threat to your '03 Winnebago isn't rust-it's delamination. You'll usually see it first on the "brow" above the windshield or along those radius roof edges. The clear coat starts to get a milky look, then it flakes off like a bad sunburn, leaving the basecoat exposed and defenseless. If you have darker colors like Canyon Red Metallic or Deep Mahogany, keep a sharp eye out for "checking"-those tiny spiderweb cracks that happen when the fiberglass gets too hot under the dark pigment and starts to bake from the inside out.

Restoration Tip

When you're dealing with paint from this era, your motto needs to be: "Seal it or lose it." If you spot a stone chip or a tiny nick where the clear coat has been breached, don't wait for the weekend. Once air and moisture get under that clear layer, they'll start lifting it in sheets. Clean the area with a prep solvent, dab on your color, and make sure you've got a solid seal over the edge of the existing clear. If the clear is already starting to flake at the roofline, you can carefully feather the edges with 800-grit wet sandpaper to stop the "creep" before applying a fresh layer of protection. Just remember-you're trying to save the basecoat; once that's gone, you're painting the whole panel.
