How to Find Your 2004 Winnebago's Color Code

Colors for Winnebago, Itasca, Rialta and ERA motorhomes are listed at the provided link. The paint color code may be hard to find on the vehicle, sometimes well hidden behind parts, and some vehicles do not have color codes at all. Winnebago can be called to ask where the code is and for the PPG paint formula number or the Dupont paint formula number. Some situations require direct contact with Winnebago.

2004 Winnebago Background Info

The 2004 Winnebago Vibe

Welcome to 2004, the year Winnebago decided that if a color didn't look like a high-end kitchen appliance or a desert sunset, it wasn't worth spraying. Whether you were piloting a top-of-the-line Vectra or the ever-reliable Adventurer, the aesthetic was "Champagne Luxury." With 55 colors in our database, it's clear the designers were having a field day with neutrals. We're talking a sea of Bright Platinum Metallic, Pewter, and Khaki Metallic. Every coach on the road back then looked like it was trying to blend into a Sedona trailhead. Of course, you had the occasional rebel opting for Wild Orchid Metallic or Canyon Red Metallic, but for the most part, 2004 was the era of the sophisticated, metallic beige.

Paint Health Check

We are firmly in The Peeling Era. By 2004, the industry had mastered the look of the two-stage basecoat/clearcoat system, but the sun has had twenty years to argue with it. If you look at the roof radius-that curved "cove" where the sidewall meets the roof-you're likely seeing the dreaded delamination. It starts as a hazy white film and ends with the clear coat flaking off like a bad sunburn, leaving the base color underneath exposed and vulnerable. Winnebagos of this vintage are also notorious for "checking"-those tiny spiderweb cracks in the fiberglass that telegraph right through your Autumn Wood Metallic finish. It looks like the paint is cracking, but it's actually the coach's skin screaming for help beneath the surface.

Restoration Tip

If you've still got original gloss, count your blessings and seal those chips immediately. On these mid-2000s rigs, once the clear coat starts to lift at the edge of a rock chip, it's a runaway train. Water gets under the "skin," freezes, and pushes the clear right off the base. When you're doing a repair on high-metallic colors like Medium Titanium Metallic or Silver Metallic, don't just "blob" the paint on. These are heavy-flake finishes. You want to build the color in thin passes to get the metallic to lay flat, then seal it with a quality clear. If you've got the "checking" cracks, don't just paint over them-they'll be back in six months. You've got to sand them back and use a high-build sealer to bridge those gaps before you even think about the color coat.
